Folio & Founder | Author Services for Every Stage
For the book you're building ✦ At every stage of becoming an author

A home for authors in the making

Wherever your book begins, we meet you there.

An idea, a draft, a finished manuscript, a book already in the world. Folio & Founder brings thoughtful guidance and hands-on support to the chapter you're in—and the one you're ready to write next.

The meaning behind the name

Folio is the work. Founder is the one who begins it.

Not a job title. A point of beginning. You may be writing a novel, preserving a life in memoir, sharing what you've learned, or returning to a book you've already published. What matters is the decision to make something real. That's where we come in.

01 / Find your place

Every book has a beginning.

Tell us where yours is today. There is no single right moment to ask for support.

A more personal kind of publishing support

Your vision. The right people beside it.

Books aren't built in straight lines. Our work is shaped around yours: the questions you have, the help you want and the kind of book you're making. Thoughtful, practical and never one-size-fits-all.

How we work

02 / What we can shape together

Support for the whole story.

Start with one piece, or ask us to help connect the pieces. We tailor the scope to the book in front of us.

01

Book direction

Turn a promising idea into a clearer project. We can help you consider its purpose, reader, structure and the path from concept to manuscript.

For you if you're not sure where to begin, or you want to begin with intention.

02

Editorial partnership

Give a developing manuscript the attention it deserves. Explore structure, voice and revision priorities, with guidance that helps the work become more fully itself.

For you if you're writing, revising or deciding what your draft needs next.

03

Design & production

Make the reading experience as considered as the writing. Cover direction, interior preparation, ebook conversion and print-ready details bring the manuscript into book form.

For you if your manuscript is taking its final shape and presentation matters.

04

Publishing & distribution

Navigate the practical side with confidence: title setup, metadata, formats, proofs, release planning and the channels through which readers can find your work.

For you if you're preparing to publish and want the details handled thoughtfully.

05

Launch & what follows

Think beyond publication day. Shape a launch approach, refine author materials, revisit a published book or map the next project—without feeling that the relationship ends at release.

For you if your book is nearly here, already here or ready for a next chapter.

Every engagement is shaped through a conversation. The services in your project will be confirmed together; no fixed package is presumed.

03 / What matters to us

Good books need good company.

I.

Your voice comes first.

The book should sound and feel like yours. Support is there to make your intention clearer, not replace it.

II.

Clarity over gatekeeping.

Publishing can be complicated. We explain the decisions in plain language so you can choose your way forward.

III.

Care in the details.

From a first outline to a final proof, the small choices shape how a book arrives in the world.

04 / The way forward

Begin with a conversation.

We don't expect you to know every answer before you reach out. A good first step is simply telling us where you are.

01 / Tell us

Bring the book as it is.

An idea, a messy draft, final files or a published title. Share the stage, the vision and the questions you're carrying.

02 / Map it

Find the right support.

We'll talk through what the project needs, what can wait and where the right help can make a difference.

03 / Make it

Build the next chapter.

With a shared direction, we shape a scope of work and move forward with your book at the center.

A resource for the road ahead

The Folio Notes.

We believe helpful information should meet you before you're ready to hire anyone. Here are three small places to start.

01

Begin with the reader.

Write one sentence about who the book is for and what you hope they carry away. Let it guide your next choice.

02

Give the draft permission.

A rough manuscript isn't a failure of polish. It's the material that makes meaningful revision possible.

03

Separate the decisions.

Writing, editing, design and publication are different phases. You don't have to solve them all today.

More in-depth author guides are in the works.

A few good questions

You don't have to have it all figured out.

Do I need a finished manuscript?

No. The point is to meet you at your stage. A conversation can help clarify what support makes sense now and what belongs later.

Is this only for business owners?

Not at all. “Founder” is about founding a book project, not running a company. Fiction, memoir, nonfiction and expertise-led books all belong in the conversation.

What if my book is already published?

There may still be meaningful work ahead: a new edition, clearer metadata, a stronger author presence or a more intentional next project.

Do I have to know which service I need?

No. Tell us where the book is and what feels unclear. We can explore the right next step together before defining a scope.

05 / Your next chapter

Tell us about your book.

The first idea, the final proof and everything between are welcome here. Share a little about what you're making and where you'd like a hand.

No perfect pitch required. A few honest sentences are enough to begin.
